With humor, wit, and love she shared with attendees her journey as a storyteller as well as anecdotes from her life growing up in East Tennessee. Woven into her connections with the story of Christy, Elizabeth brought to life characters of her stories. Her characterization, singing, and enthusiasm for sharing a good tale was a joy to watch.

Swappin' Howdies Luncheon
Attendees gathered at Miss Lily's Cafe for a fresh and delicious lunch and spent time getting acquainted with each other.

A Stretching Process all the Way
Presented by Marilyn Mitchem
Marilyn Mitchem, author and historian, shared with attendees stories and facts she found celebrating the 100th anniversary of Leonora Whitaker's marriage to John Wood on May 3, 1910. Painstakingly, she has traced the couple's brief courtship and enduring marriage. Intertwined with her discoveries were first-hand accounts of John and Leonora from their relatives.
Alongside this exploration of the Woods' marriage, Marilyn focused on the eventful weekend of May 13-15, 1910. Also influential in the Woods' lives, as well as the other residents of Morgan Gap, the church/schoolhouse was dedicated that important weekend. A donated bell rang in the newly constructed bell tower as the work at Ebenezer Mission expanded.
Marilyn shared with attendees the role of each important figure as well as documents tracing these historical events. Everyone was fascinated as Marilyn shared of her discoveries and thorough knowledge. Attendees were also able to hear Leonora's own voice recalling some of the antics of her students which very likely served as inspiration for the students in Christy!
